Kulturherberge Wernershöhe

As part of my 7 Senses Slow Marathon I was visiting the Kulturherberge Wernershöhe for four days. The place was brought together by a number of likeminded individuals - Artists, Philosophers, Musicians - back in 1998. They all studied in Hildesheim and were looking for alternative forms of living and working. The site is a former official hostel of the Deutsches Jugendherbergswerk which folded in the early 1990ies.

Some of the original inhabitants still live there as they have bought parts of the hostel each. They now run it as a collective, where up to 45 people can stay overnight. Cultural activity still underpins the place, where a sculpture walk can be seen, music is made and an annual festival is taking place.
