Why Here? Why Now?

Timespan is always like a homecoming. The organization has evolved from a local history museum, primarily focusing on the clearances, to a vibrant art places that brings together history with the contemporary local with global issues – including those of migration.

The new Director Giulia Gregnanin is a font of inspiration with many ideas. This year her programme is focusing on the North Sea extractivism, aiming to open up for and find alliances of different movements that connect with different countries.

In most welcoming sunshine we undertook a walking lunch with her dog along the coast, passing Clemens Wilhelm’s Monument to an Artist on the way.

Giulia sees it as important to try to engage as much as possible with traditions, while at the same time working with a transnational dialogue.

The ĒASTRE weekend promised to have an all encompassing family event exploring experiences of transition, resistance, community, joy and love.

In Why here? Why now? – lies the methods to be applied.

At the monument of the unknown artist

While staying at the always lovely Jean Sargent it was a special treat to meet my old colleague (and then Director of Timespan) Anna Vermehren again with her baby. All after a fine night out at the unique La Mirage restaurant.
